Changing of the Cars

February 18, 2005 · Print This Article

Just to be totally self-serving and useless, (and to see if I can track some Google adwords - heh) I’m going to fill everyone in on the lastest goings on with the vehicles in the Fix Chicks’ driveways. Boring? Probably. But for the sake of some metrics, bear with me for a sec…

For years, my trademark was “the filthy red Jeep.” Yes, a perpetually dirty Jeep Cherokee with cloth seats, a standard transmission, and barely any shock absorbers. It rode like a truck and after nearly 200,000 soccer, family reunion, and work miles, it’s still running but based in my son’s driveway now. A few years back, the other Fix Chick, Monica, mocked me by buying her own filthy red Jeep, only hers was a Grand Cherokee and she washed it. Imagine that. I teased her about Jeep envy but in reality, I was envious - her Jeep was newer and kewler. However when her commute to work changed, that biggo truck became a liability so she sold it and ended up with a Honda Del Sol… incidentally, the Honda now resides in my daughter’s driveway. Bear in mind that we Fix Chicks didn’t even live in the same town as all this transpired.

Last year when I moved to Dallas, I finally retired the FRJ and bought myself what I’ve always wanted - a Wrangler. A real Jeep. Yes, it’s red. Monica sold my daughter her Honda and bought herself a VW Beetle. Now, less than a year later, with baby girl in tow and baby question mark on the way, she now drives - yep, you guessed it - a Jeep - a shiny Jeep Liberty.

It’s a Jeep thing - you wouldn’t understand.
